What is MDS?

Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) are a group of disorders caused by poorly formed blood cells or faulty blood cells in the bone marrow. MDS affects the production of normal blood cells, leading to anemia, infections, and bleeding problems.

Symptoms of MDS

  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Frequent infections
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Pale skin
  • Fever

Diagnosis and Treatment

MDS is diagnosed through blood tests, bone marrow biopsy, and genetic testing. Treatment options include supportive care, chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, and targeted therapies.

Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can significantly improve quality of life and prognosis for MDS patients.
